Skills For Life - Learn How To Get Along With People

Would you like to make friends easily, be more successful, have great social skills, easily cope with difficult people? Would you like the satisfaction of your children or your grandchildren being able to?

In today’s extremely competitive world we really need an edge to place ourselves above the masses. If you want to achieve or want your loved ones to achieve, one of the smartest things you can do is continually invest in self help or people skills. You will find that successful people do this on an ongoing basis. They never stop investing in these skills for life.

We invest a lot of money to educate ourselves. And when our children are born we do everything in our power to invest in and encourage their education. We want nothing but the best for them and we think education is their ticket to success and happiness. However what most fail to do for themselves and for their children is to invest in people skills education. Even by doing some top notch degree will not include any of these self improvement lessons which are essential to surviving in today’s competitive world.

Therefore we need to take charge of doing this ourselves by taking the necessary steps. Even if you pick up just one good idea in the process and implement it, then it is well worth it.

Another angle to consider is that a confident, self assured person who has been taught skills for life is much less likely to become a victim of depression or reliant on addictive coping behaviour, such as leaning towards drugs and alcohol. A confident person will also have the ability of not being intimidated by other people or situations. It is pointless having lots of technical knowledge if you fall apart in a job interview, meeting or social event.

The ability to deal with situations and people will assist in your intimate relationships and with family and friends, the most vital part of your life. You often see friction in families that could be avoided if only they had a little knowledge of people skills and how to deal with difficult people.

I have two children who love to read and one who does not. Thankfully today this is not a problem as a person does not have to be a reader to take advantage of a good self help book - audio books to the rescue !! But audio books are good for all people seeking knowledge and entertainment because audio books can fill in that wasted time - for example while someone is exercising, driving or doing the housework they can be listening to some type of self improvement education or entertainment with an MP3 player.

There are lots and lots of great self help books on the market. One of my all time favourites that I have encouraged my children to read/listen to is Dale Carnegies “How To Win Friends and Influence People”. This was published in 1937 but is just as relevant today as it was back then. Human nature has not changed. And if you think it might be written a bit like Shakespeare and may be boring you would be wrong. He writes as if he was having a conversation with you and makes it really entertaining with questions and stories.

This skills for life book is based on the experiences of the students of Dale Carnegie who experimented with ideas to find out what worked and what did not. This makes his book more compelling as the exercises are proven and he does not just take on the role of being a self appointed expert.

His angle is basically - treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. By following this rule using praise, appreciation and encouragement you will be rewarded. One of the most basic human desires is to feel important which is why this method is certain to work.

One of the most interesting things he reveals is that the Carnegie Institute did an experimental study on engineering students and came up with proof that 15% of financial success relied on technical knowledge and 85% of financial success was due to personality and people skills.

If you would like to do yourself or your child/grandchild a big favour gift them this book. A lot of the worlds’ problems are due to people unable to cope with life. Then their dysfunction is transferred to their children.

We must give ourselves and our children the best chance possible to live a happy and fulfilling life.
